April Fool’s Day and Easter Sunday fell on the same date this year, and I wonder if the Easter bunny played all sorts of jokes on people. Rocks inside of plastic eggs instead of candy? Wrapping grapes in colorful foil instead of chocolate? Hiding nothing but sending people out on a hunt?
Thankfully, when I spoke with him, the bunny and I decided to separate the two holidays and just make Easter normal. The bunny brought the gifts and he and I went right to work hiding them. BUT, we decided to make things a little tougher this year and create a scavenger hunt that forced the little people to use their brainpower.
To begin, each kid was assigned a color of sticky notes and a simple puzzle to get them started. Malory had to find the letters of her name. So, she found the letter M hidden around the house on a pink sticky note, which had another note underneath with a clue of where to find her first gift. Obviously, she made it through the letters of her name, and the last one led her to her basket on the trampoline. Great fun!!
Now, for the big kids ol’ EB and I decided we should make it a bit more challenging than just spelling. Math was the name of the game, which required us to consult Google for a little help (don’t judge….high school math was a LONG time ago).
Reese’s clues were simple multiplication, but the Mathlete had some decimal and fraction work. My brain hurt before my second cup of coffee. Here they are working their way through the wall of sticky notes…..
And, just for a little extra fun, bunny and I made extra numbers and wrong answers….a rabbit hole if you will (I crack myself up). It was also April Fool’s Day after all….
The remainder of our Easter was pretty low key. Charlie and John drank a few beers and likely watched some golf. This is why we have dogs by the way.
In other news, and a tidbit that will make Aunt Jodi feel better about her level of clumsiness, there is this….
I was sooooooo excited for my hair appointment this particular morning. It had been a while, and my pretend blonde hair was showing it’s true colors (again, I crack myself up!!). It was a cold and snowy morning, as evidenced by my Hunter boots, leggings, and sweater. I had a pile of magazines stuffed in my purse, a Venti Iced Green Tea from Sbux in my hand, and an excitement for 2 hours of pampering. I was (mostly) on time, but jumped out of the car quickly, and in my rush I apparently didn’t see the 1 inch curb. My beautiful red Hunter boot caught the edge, my purse and its contents went flying, and my green tea slammed to the ground and cracked wide open. Stupid Starbucks cups. I was so embarrassed about who may have seen this show, that I didn’t take the time to see how injured I was, instead collected my things and rushed into the salon. It was only when I got into the chair that I felt a slight sting in on my leg. This picture does not do justice to the road rash I gave my poor knee. And, those were my favorite leggings. Also not shown is the damage my poor elbows endured. I seriously wish I could have watched this from afar….a 5 foot 10 inch lady with an armful of shit having a yard sale on the sidewalk was probably a sight to see.
And, speaking of injured….this little dog should not be alive today. The fact that he is alive, well and taking up residence on my kitchen counters is proof that he might be the devil.
Charlie takes medicine every day for a knee injury, likely sustained playing with fighting off Cooper. He takes a pretty standard anti-inflammatory, like Advil, and it makes him into a brand new dog. Without it, he limps around like a sad 10-year-old farm dog. Anyway, without going into the extensive details, Cooper got ahold of Charlie’s meds and ate THE ENTIRE BOTTLE. We’re talking 83 pills….I know this because I had just picked up a refill of the 90-day supply a week earlier.
Long story short, we had to take all 3 dogs to the emergency vet because we weren’t sure which one ate them. And, we weren’t sure when it happened. Fast forward 24 hours and $800 later, and all 3 dogs were completely fine. Although I am sure Cooper felt no pain for months afterward….
I’d like to take a minute to celebrate my sweet middle child, who sometimes gets the short end of the stick around here. Usually, she just goes on about the day without much bellyaching or push back, and for that I am thankful. I know that trait will serve her well in life.
So, Reese was chosen to display a piece in the District Art Show. And on the same day, she participated in the school choir concert. If I’d had to choose which of my kids would be more “interested” in the Arts, I wouldn’t have chosen Reese. But, I was proven wrong. She is turning into a great little artist and although her singing voice is still “developing” she goes after it with heart. 💖
