What does one do when the school year ends, there are no alarm clocks, no schedule and the sun is shining? We put on our swimsuits and head to the pool!!! At least that’s what we did on June 1….and June 2 and June 3…..
Our unscheduled time was short -lived I’m afraid, and that’s ok. This summer we decided to take advantage of the many Youth Program activities that the country club had to offer. So, we signed up for swim team, tennis, golf and multiple sports camps. You’d think that I’d be used to a frantic schedule during the school year, but to be honest, once I get the kids on the bus at 8:45, I can move as fast or as slow as I like. Malory and I can sit and drink coffee, the laundry can get done whenever, and I don’t have to even think about dinner until late afternoon. This was not going to be like that….we were required to run like a well-oiled MACHINE. Swim team began at 8:15, followed by tennis at 9:15, followed by tennis again at 10:00 and somedays Sports Camp at noon. Add to that the matter of running a household (see aforementioned laundry, and everyone likes to eat which requires groceries) and Mama was BUSY!
The kids loved the new activities. Reese took to the water like….well, like a duck to water. Jackson had been playing tennis all spring and continued to love it. Malory even enjoyed going to the new childcare program, The Treehouse, and playing with her new friends. I managed to squeeze in a workout or two between running back and forth from the pool to the tennis courts to the driving range. It wasn’t long and we’d settled into our new routine just fine.
Another thing that we’d looked forward to all spring was this…..
And boat picnics. We love gathering a few snacks, some sandwiches and of course a few beverages for an evening dinner cruise. We often have guests….:-)
Switching gears now…and I have no witty words of transition, so that’s it.
Typically, I plant all of my flowers shortly after Mother’s Day (see post from May 2013 for a rant about it). This year because we suddenly live in Seattle, there wasn’t a chance in hell that I could get anywhere near planting until well into June. But, thanks to my sweet Daddy, the end result was worth the wait. He spent many painstaking, scotch-fueled hours in his woodshop crafting these beauties….and I couldn’t love them more. They were exactly what I needed to dress up the front of my house.
Switching gears again. There will be no rhyme or reason for the remainder of this post; it’s all technically chronological, but you wouldn’t know it by reading. Sorry.
Poor Charlie went to the veterinarian mid-month to have his manhood removed. This isn’t something I would normally consider writing about on a family blog, but the pictures were so pathetic I couldn’t resist sharing them. I think he was more upset about the cone of shame than he was about being neutered. Walter can sympathize because he was just there a few months back. See how he feels bad, yet is laughing secretly?
Now, because I haven’t crammed enough activities into each day with the swim, tennis, golf, etc….I decided that the kids needed some left brain activity too. So, my little Picassos spent an afternoon at art class creating these masterpieces. Just in case you can’t tell, they are a dog and a cat respectively….not the children, the paintings.
Pretty good stuff, right? They have found a permanent home, hung on the wall directly outside of the playroom.
Miss Malory doesn’t get much blog time, because she’s 2 and doesn’t do much besides eat and sleep. But, she was the star of the show on family haircut day, and look how pleased she was.
I think she looked pretty grown-up with her fancy new do. She agreed and told every single person she saw about it for the next week.
Moving on again to the one day a year where John is allowed to sleep in, fed breakfast and then play golf…Father’s Day. Wait, never mind…he does that most weekends;-)
At least for this particular day, the kids and I got crafty yet again and showered him with all sorts of Hobby Lobby offerings. Grandpa was able to join us for the day as well, and we enjoyed a BBQ and a day on the lake.
To wrap things up, there are just a few miscellaneous pictures in my “June 2015” folder that deserve a spot on the blog, but once again have no chronological reference. Just random…but important nonetheless.
Because John just didn’t have enough to do in creating a new business and also being an awesome father of 3, he decided to create another facet of Paradigm Fresh in a new logistics (read transportation or trucking) division. In order to do that, he is the proud new owner of a SHINY, BIG semi truck. The kids and I went to check it out one hot afternoon, and I discovered that the living quarters in these things are WAY nicer than I imagined. In fact, if these kids and dogs get on my last nerve, I may offer to drive some onions across country s-l-o-w-l-y.
Lastly for the month, we put our permanent stamp on our backyard in the form of footprints in some Quikcrete. If we ever move, we’ll have to sell to a family of 5 Harris’s and 2 dogs. Oh, and the dad will need to have really flat feet…
