Ahhhhhh…..summer! I think I said last year (and the year before for that matter) how much I love summer, and how each year I go into it with these grandiose plans and ideas. Some of them come to fruition and some of them don’t, but the thing I love the most are the days with my family just goofing around with no where to be and nothing to do except have fun. And what better way to start off the season than with this…
Looks delicious, doesn’t it? Believe me, it was the first of MANY that I had.
I drank them at the pool.
I drank them on the boat.
I drank them on the course
I drank them on a float.
I do not like Green Eggs and Ham….I’ll stop now.
I think Malory had some too. She’s got her beer goggles on. I am so funny right now! Moving on…
Just a few days into June, we welcomed our first house guests….for a while. Nana and Papa returned from their annual trek to California and moved into our basement for the better part of the summer. I’ve always wanted to have my own personal yard boy, and now I did. I didn’t waste any time putting him to work fishing the seaweed out of the lake near the dock. It was a big job, but don’t feel too bad for him….I rewarded him with vodka.
To go along with our new house and lake, we added a new pontoon boat to our list of toys. The perfectly adequate one that came with the house was quickly shuttled out to the boat store and was replaced with the BIGGEST one in the neighborhood. This doesn’t surprise anyone, does it? You’ve met John, right? Seriously, our boat is a good 8 feet longer than anyone else’s and John drives around with a huge smile on his face.
Once we convinced them that there were no alligators or sharks in our waters, the kids were delighted to take a running leap off the deck into the semi-warm lake.
And, to wrap up what could be the most random post I’ve ever put on the blog, we ended June with a lovely trip to Aspen to celebrate TEN years of wedded bliss. Our house guests were kind enough to keep the little people for a few days while John and I hobnobbed with the rich and famous. It’s our second trip to Aspen, and each time we’re pretty sure we could live there…in the summer anyway. If you’ve never been, it’s completely the opposite of what you envision when you think of Aspen. Everyone is dressed in workout clothes, all restaurants are dog-friendly, and it’s about as laid back as you can get. We enjoy people watching, shopping, and what we do best….eat and drink. Clearly we’d already had a few when we took this picture….
