Since October has 31 days, and is the host of a holiday that is pretty important if you’re under the age of 12, it’s fair to say that a lot of things happened this month. BUT, because I can play the “I write this blog” card again, I will say that all of those things were overshadowed by the fact that October is my birthday season.
I know, I know….your birthday is only one day and shouldn’t be viewed as a season by which people treat you like a queen and shower you with affection and presents. Wait….yes it should.
ESPECIALLY, when said birthday season is your 40th. More on that later….
First, there were two whole weeks of “normal life” to live before we left on vacation, and we filled them with the usual events:
A school field trip to a local farm
Crafting Halloween decorations a full 5 weeks early
And, Malory helped me unload the dishwasher
Ok, enough of normal life, let’s GO ON VACATION! John was in charge of planning the birthday extravaganza, and lined up a cruise to the Bahamas, leaving from New York City. We were beyond excited for the actual trip, but more excited to spend 9 fun-filled days with Marc Solid and Bacon.
For those of you that do not know Mark and Becky, we met them on our honeymoon almost TEN years ago. We have remained in touch ever since, and manage to go on vacation together as often as possible…unless someone (??) gets pregnant and ruins all the plans. We don’t talk all that much during the “off season” aside from the usual Facebook banter. But, when we get together on vacation, it’s as if not a day has passed since we last saw each other, and the questionable behavior, binge drinking, and belly-shaking laughter commences. This trip was no exception.
So, you’ve all heard the phrase: “What happens in Vegas…” Yeah, much of this vacation is not family blog material, and will forever be stamped into the brains of it’s participants. But, I will share some pictures and accompanying explanation, simply because the brains that are supposed to remember may not.
Our first night in New York City, was the “official” birthday celebration at Nobu in SoHo. I love sushi, and no one does it better than Mr. Matsuhisa
Ok, that was almost as bad as the old-fashioned vacation slide show. Sorry about that….we’ll move on.
The last day of our trip was a rush home for a very important event….a certain little person was turning 7 (!?!) that very day, and although Kortni made the day very special for him, it was no substitute for Mom and Dad.
In a moment of guilt prior to the vacation, John and I promised the young man a SLEEPOVER birthday party this year, to commence a mere 36 hours after we returned. I am a glutton for punishment, but managed to forge ahead and turn my house into a spooky house of horrors, complete with severed body parts and skeletons galore. A few of our neighborhood friends and kids arrived for a really fun time. Once, again there aren’t pictures of anyone’s kids but my own (not kosher w/o permission).
Alright, one last event before October 2013 is in the books. You’ll remember roughly 10,000 words ago I mentioned that October is host to a holiday that’s pretty important for the younger crowd. It’s Jackson’s favorite (because it’s his birthday) and Reese loves it because…well, CANDY. Malory isn’t sure what to think, but sure does make a cute spider.
