So, August was a whirlwind of activity….
In the first few days of the month, we sold this place:
Which led to this:
To go to this smaller home in preparation for building in a year or two:
WAIT…..false alarm!!! Three days before we were set to move, the buyers decided they did not want our house after all. Aren’t they precious? As you can imagine, there were a multitude of swear words in the Harris house during that time, but John and I did manage to teach Jackson that it’s not polite to talk about people that way.
Seriously, we were all a bundle of stress and thus did our very best to chill out and enjoy our last few days of summer before school.
John channeled Elvis on the golf course:
I took the kids bowling and tried to redeem myself (you’ll note that I spanked them both, and I did not use the bumpers, John):
We went to the Greatest Show on Earth, and I was tempted to sell John to the circus folk:
And, we rediscovered a mountain adventure in our own backyard…Estes Park. We hadn’t been in years, and had forgotten how much fun there is to be had there.
There was train riding (and ice cream):
Lunch at Murphy’s River Lodge:
Hiking (and caramel apples):
Batting cages (and salt water taffy):
Dinner on the river:
Just in case you’re a little S-L-O-W and didn’t pick up on the theme, we did A LOT of eating while in Estes Park. I was thankful for the end of the “tourist” season, for if we had gone back too many more times, I would have been forced to break out the elastic pants. We had so much fun and are hopeful that the town will be back on its feet following the floods by next summer. I’ll be really hungry by then….
The end of August brings the beginning of school, and although I jokingly complained about how busy summer was for us, and whined about the endless activities….I LOVE having my little people home each day. So, the beginning of the school year is bittersweet. My young man was super excited to start FIRST GRADE, primarily because he got to ride the bus home and eat hot lunch in the cafeteria. It’s the little things, right? Here he is, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed waiting for the bus on the first morning:
And, here he is getting out of the car in front of the school when we realized we’d missed the bus on the first morning. I am mother of the year!!!
