Hello everyone– I foolishly threw down the gauntlet for myself when I suggested in the 2012 Christmas letter that I would write a blog. Well, I am a woman of my word (most of the time) and never procrastinate (shhhhh….John). So, here it is: The Harris Family Blog, first edition. I’ve been trying to come up with a fancier title, but I could think and think for months….and then it would be July and I’d have yet to write a single post. And then I’d be a liar….see earlier procrastination statement. For the time being, I’ve challenged myself to post once a month. Our lives are simply not that exciting, so any more than that and I’d be like many of my Facebook friends who post every thought that comes into their head (Reid:-).
Now, like any good book or movie we need to begin with a setting and a cast of characters.
This is our house. We live in Fort Collins, CO. Our neighborhood and it’s occupants (with a few exceptions) are awesome and we love it here.
This handsome devil is the head of our household, Johnny Onion, aka Daddy. Most days when he’s not golfing, he’s schlepping onions and conquering the world at Rocky Mountain Produce Group. John loves football season, Democrats, and martinis…although not in that particular order.
This is me…Julie, Jules, Mommy, Queen Bee. I am the coordinator of chaos for our family of five. We are as busy as any group of people with different schedules and interests and thus I spend the majority of my time in the Big Silver School Bus. I love my kiddos with a fierce intensity, my husband with the same (most days), and wine….also no particular order;-).
Our firstborn, John Jackson Harris. Buckwheat to his daddy, Buddy to his mama, and the apple of both his sisters’ eyes. That will surely change with time. He is in Mrs. Busselman’s half-day Kindergarten at Bethke Elementary and loves it. He is a creative young man, kind to everyone he knows, and just excited about all life has to offer.
Ms. Reese, aka The Ham. She is a character and gives John and I a run for our money each and everyday. I am beginning to see a little “boy crazy” coming through, and all I can say is “God help us.” She attends Miramont Preschool two days a week, and has deep affection for Mr. Ben, Cameron, all things Princess, and food.
Our newest addition, Malory Jane is the sweetest and thus far quietest member of the family, although we know that can’t last. She is likely to give Reese competition for “most talkative”, and when that happens, I will be moving out. She’s a typical third child, and just goes with the flow most of the time. She lives her life with Mom in the BSSB- see above.
The Beagle, laziest dog alive. Milo spends most of his days on the couch atop the fluffy white pillow, counting the hours until his next meal. He is a total mama’s boy and works himself into a frenzy upon hearing the garage door open, awaiting my arrival. Likely, he just wants me to feed him.
I wasn’t able to find a picture of John’s dog Mattie, but a quick Internet search turned up this striking similarity. No one who reads this blog will be surprised about the lack of time I devoted to introducing Mattie. I prefer to use the adage that we were all taught in preschool…”If you don’t have anything nice to say…”
So, that’s our family. I actually enjoyed writing this post, and look forward to sharing our adventures. Get ready for next time….February was quite a month!!!
